The Distinguished Scientist serves in an unpaid role as advisor and liaison.

Policy & Initiatives

The Entomological Society of America (ESA) is a non-partisan scientific organization. We represent a broad spectrum of opinions united under one principle: the promotion and advancement of scientific inquiry, discovery, and communication. A key component of our mission is to enable our members to share their science globally.

Science Policy Writing Committees

Would you like to help shape the development of ESA’s science policy positions?

Writing committees draft the Society's Position Statements, issues of critical importance on which more scientific education is required. When the ESA Governing Board authorizes the drafting of a new statement, a Writing Committee will be formed.

ESA Science Policy Committee

The ESA Science Policy Committee was created in 2013. It is charged with leading the effort to establish a science policy agenda for ESA that will guide and focus the Society's outreach efforts with governments, NGOs, and other organizations. The committee's tasks included developing a framework for gathering input from throughout the Society, and determining how actions may benefit the Society and its members. The committee consists of a Chair (ESA Past-President), a representative from each Section and Branch, the EPA-OPP Liaison, one student member, and one Ad hoc member.
