Annapolis, MD; May 11, 2020—The Entomological Society of America is pleased to have received a record number of nominations for the Fellow of the ESA award in 2020. Thirty-seven complete nominations packages were submitted to the Society this year, nearly doubling the typical number of submissions.
“We could not be happier about the number and diversity of Fellows nominations this year,” says Alvin Simmons, ESA President. “ESA’s members wanted to ensure that the Governing Board would have a diverse group of nominees to consider in 2020, and they invested the time and effort to make that a reality. We are grateful to every member who contributed a nomination packet.”
Fellows of ESA are individuals who have made outstanding contributions to entomology—via research, teaching, extension and outreach, administration, or the military—and whose career accomplishments serve to inspire all entomologists.
In 2019, ESA established its Awards and Honors Canvassing Committee to grow the ESA Awards and Honors program and increase opportunities for the advancement and professional development of all Society members. The committee is dedicated to ensuring that ESA's awards candidate pools keep pace with the changing demographics of the profession by actively engaging Society membership and encouraging members to submit nominations/candidates that reflect the diversity and breadth of the discipline. Members interested in becoming involved with the Awards and Honors Canvassing Committee should contact ESA Director of Strategic Initiatives Erin Cadwalader at ecadwalader@entsoc.org.
The 2020 Fellows of the ESA, along with ESA’s other award winners, will be announced in September 2020.
