The ESA Annual Meeting depends on the following volunteers to ensure the meeting runs smoothly. Thank you for considering serving in one or more of these capacities.
Moderators are responsible for keeping their session running on schedule and facilitating discussion where necessary. Training for moderators will be provided onsite during the meeting. Up to two moderators will be assigned to all oral presentation sessions.
ESA is soliciting volunteers for the committee vacancies listed below. Members interested in serving in one or more of these capacities should complete the ESA Volunteer Committee Interest Form by May 30, 2024.
ESA Committees conduct important business functions for the Society. Three committees—Finance, Audit, and Ethics and Rules—are defined as Standing Committees in the ESA Bylaws, while all other committees are established by policy of the ESA Governing Board and outlined in the Society Policy Manual. Unless otherwise indicated, members of Committees serve for terms of three years each. Terms commence at the close of the Annual Meeting of the Society and are arranged so that approximately one-third will expire each year.
Get involved and get connected on the local level. Share your skills and expertise. Throughout the year, ESA Branch and Sections need volunteers to help with their leadership, committee work, organizing meetings and events, moderating and judging – and more.
The volunteer opportunities vary from Branch to Branch and from Section to Section. Contact the President or Vice President of your Branch and Section for more detail.
The information below provides a general idea of the purpose of select ESA committees, judging panels and editorial boards, including term served, involvement level of participants, and main responsibilities of its members. Each year the ESA president provides all standing committees with specific charges. Depending on the specific charge for the committee, the requirements below and involvement level of participants may change.
ESA's peer-reviewed publications would not be possible without the support of our dedicated peer reviewers. Peer reviewers provide feedback to our editors and authors on a paper's writing quality as well as the data and experimental design reported. Each paper published by one of ESA's peer-reviewed journals has been reviewed by at least two peer reviewers.
Presidential committees and task forces may be appointed as needed by the ESA President to serve during his or her term. For example, such committees may study a particular topic or develop a recommended course of action. Some presidential committees are carried forward by successive presidents, while others are active for one to a few years.
