Insect Science is Global: A Joint Statement From the International Entomological Community

Annapolis, MD; July 30, 2025—With this statement of shared purpose and vision, the 24 undersigned organizations, who represent over 28,000 insect scientists from six continents across the world, commit to deepen our collaborative efforts to seek solutions to the world's challenges and support the global entomological community. We urge government leaders to support insect science and we pledge to continue to advocate for global cooperation in insect science.

ESA, CDC Expand Public Health Entomology Workforce Through 2025 Internships and Fellowships

Annapolis, MD; July 10, 2025—The Entomological Society of America congratulates the 2025 class of interns and fellows selected for the Public Health Entomology for All program. In partnership with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ESA has expanded Public Health Entomology For All (PHEFA) in 2025 to include more one-year fellowships, extended two-year fellowships, and new summer internships and placements in state health departments. The goal of PHEFA is to encourage students and recent graduates to pursue entomology as a career and work toward a future in which all communities benefit from creative scientific processes and solutions.

Kelley Tilmon Selected to Deliver 2025 ESA Founders' Memorial Lecture

Annapolis, MD; June 11, 2025—Kelley J. Tilmon, Ph.D., professor of entomology at The Ohio State University, has been selected to deliver the Founders' Memorial Award Lecture at Entomology 2025, the Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America. Tilmon's lecture will enlighten attendees on the life and career of Maud Doria Haviland (1889-1941), a groundbreaking British female entomologist and ornithologist.

Smith Chosen as Next Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Integrated Pest Management

Annapolis, MD; November 20, 2024—Hugh A. Smith, Ph.D., vegetable entomologist at the University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, has been selected as the next editor-in-chief of the Journal of Integrated Pest Management. He will succeed Eric Rebek, Ph.D., who will depart from the journal's top editor position at the end of 2024.

Andrew Short Elected as Next Vice President-Elect of Entomological Society of America

Annapolis, MD; August 29, 2024—Andrew Short, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida, has been elected by members of the Entomological Society of America as the organization's next Vice President-Elect. ESA members also elected five other entomologists to begin or continue positions on the ESA Governing Board.

ESA Names 2024 Professional and Student Award Honorees

Annapolis, MD; August 7, 2024—The Entomological Society of America congratulates the recipients of its 2024 awards. ESA Awards & Honors recognize scientists, educators, and students who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to entomology.
